***eBay to Acquire India’s Baazee.com***

We are pleased to announce that we have agreed to acquire Baazee.com, Inc. and its subsidiary Baazee.com India Pvt. Ltd., the largest online marketplace in India. This acquisition is expected to close in the next quarter.

This agreement will allow eBay to expand its global footprint into the nascent but growing Indian market, and to bring new opportunities to a broader base of users. In turn, Baazee.com will leverage its relationship with eBay to further develop its marketplace and strengthen its position in India’s e-commerce market. The combination of Baazee.com and eBay will allow buyers and sellers to gain access to a broader range of choice and convenience.

For more details, please see the press release at http://investor.ebay.com/releases.cfm?Year=2004

Did anybody else experience this? Is this some kind of new experiment?

I think google will lose all its reputation and faith by doing that, its simply misleading as the person searching thinks that is a genuine link, but it isn't.

For example: Search google for Khoobsurat and you will notice that the topmost link doesn't have any relation with the word.

Since rediff's mmbrship will definetly less than Yahoo's $20.00, so if it gives a good service, it has lot of chances to directly compete w/ Yahoo as 1GB > 100 MB and ofcourse Hotmail :P (2 MB hehehehe...)

BTW rediff is really offering 1 GB unlike Gmail

Yahoo fights back

... but, its not good for the consumer.

Since a cpl. of days my YIM has been disconecting me randomly. I am using ver. 6.0 (BETA). So I decided to upgrade it to latest version (6.0). The instalation had this screen.

Yahoo is selling its other products like toolbar and Yahoo extras w/ the messenger. I didn't want the toolbar as I already have Google toolbar, so I unchecked Make Yahoo! my default search engine (mine is Google) and then clicked the Custom Installation radio button.

As soon as I clicked the custom installation, Make Yahoo! my default search engine was checked again automatically, but this time with a difference. The difference was that, I couldn't uncheck it which means that if I don't want to install Yahoo's toolbar, then I have to make its search engine as my default search engine.....WTF!!??!! I didn't install the new messenger.

These are the steps taken by Yahoo, to stop its customers from using more and more google's services. Yahoo very well knows that a lot of people are dependent on YIM and thus it is trying to sell its other products thru its Messenger (which unfortunately Google doesn't have).

I think this act of Yahoo can drag it to some legal battles, as it can't force its messenger users to use its search engine or toolbar. Once gmail is launched, most of the Yahoo Mail users will abandon it and would use Gmail.

Yahoo's fight is justified, but the ways they r using aren't. The ways used by Yahoo are anti-consumer.

She said that they will call me either today or tomorrow.....this is very bad support. They shud outsource the Yahoo DSL Tech support to India :P. They got a really cool system, where you have to talk to the computrized voice and not just keep on punching few numbers. I have seen this kind of service for handicap people and they ask you to say or press "1" but this service was completely different. The voice asked me if I was using a Windows PC or Macintosh. I replied Windows PC and the computer got it. For a few questions I said yes yesterday but today I said "yeah" and the system still got it. I really liked the system as it has so many challenges like different accents. It must have been very well tested before putting it up for the public use!!! I would be more happy if they fix my DSL ASAP. :(

Some poor soul (Krishna) at Orkut.com was pissed off at Laloo ji. He wrote:

i want to kill laloo 5/23/2004 11:26 AM
i don't why, i have developed a deep hatred for laloo, And i know most of intellectual hate him but still he is the railway minister. i am sure he is going to mess up.

bihar which was the most industrialized states immediately after independence has become on of the worst of the lot.

patna is known for its historic greatness, great university etc.
Lot of iron ore resourses. what the hell happened with this state.

My Answer:

I have great respect for Mr. Laloo Prasad Yadav.

If we look at the positive side of his being the Railway Minister - If he was foreign minister he would have offered his drink *fresh lassi* to preimers of other countries thus resulting in diahrea (I am not too good at spelling diseases) and as a result poor relations b/w India and other countries!

What can he do as RM? - Probabbly route all the trains via Patna (Bihari vote bahut jaroori hai). So if you have to go to Delhi from Jammu then you first goto Ptna then Delhi. This will boost Indian economy - the hawkers @ railway stations will get lot of business. TC's will earn lot of money. And the best thing is that you as a person will get so much *leisure* time in the train and would relax you from all the stress. Banks will get more business - won't u use Travelor's Cheque before visiting Bihar (no offence to Biharis)? and many more.... may be in next few posts

Till then n'joy Lalooism!!

Yahoo decided to give unlimited space to its paid members (as written in my other entry). Apart from that Yahoo has decided to upgrade its FREE email service from 4 MB (currently) to 100 MB. Though I enjoy 6 MB account :D Yahoo boosts free email service to 100 Megs.
Google Freaked out!!

Yahoo announced that all their PAID customers, for their email service, will get UNLIMITED storage. Most prolly to counter it Gmail hs freaked out and increased the quota to 1 TB, yes it is ONE TETRABYTE = 1000 GIGABYTES.

There hasn't been any official notice from Google yet, but lot of people can see it in their inboxes

Screenshot taken from (http://dan.hersam.com/archive/001744.html)

Please note that I said a lot of people but not all Gmail users. I still have 1 GB :(. Nobody knows what criteria is being used for allocating a TB storage space!

Some people think that it is a bug....but there are very slim chances of it being a bug as some users have about 30 Megs of emails and their inbox shows that they are using 0% of 1000000 MB. If it was a bug then the % should have been atleast 1%.

This marks the new era of Space Race!!!
